Student Support

At Built Form Design Academy we aim to balance the flexibility of studying online at your own pace and also providing support for our students as they navigate their course work. We provide this in a variety of ways from payment plans to one-on-one zoom sessions with educators. It is equally important that as a student you actively engage with your fellow students and network within the industry.

Course Fees

VET Fees

We currently offer VET for students residing in Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

Concessions

We offer a reduced fee for students on a disability pension or long-term unemployed. Contact us for more information regarding the fees.

Payment Plan

The cost of Built Form Design Academy qualification courses are paid in instalments over the length of your qualification and varies depending on the Qualification being undertaken.

You will initially be charged an upfront fee and administration charge, before you commence your studies.

Paying your fees upfront, in manageable instalments, over the duration of the course  means that you leave with a qualification debt free. So that the financial rewards of working in your new career are yours to enjoy.

Study Support

Flexible Learning

Built Form Design Academy is an online only campus so you can study where you are and at your own pace giving you the flexibility to work your study around your lifestyle.

Dedicated Student Facebook Groups

We have dedicated student Facebook groups specific for design, Revit and ArchiCAD, where you can post questions, search previous questions and share your tips and tricks whilst getting to know your fellow students.

You’ll also find some of our graduates in these groups lending their support and learnings.

Zoom Support Sessions

We understand that sometimes, you need direct guidance from an educator. We have educators available during business hours that you can schedule a phone call or if deemed necessary, a zoom one-on-one session where you can share screens with an educator to troubleshoot an issue.

These webinars provide students with an opportunity to ask questions about topics and assessments.

Deferment

Sometimes life can throw us a curve ball! And by its very nature the attraction with online study is that you can fit it into your life. So, if something comes up and you need a bit of time off or your pace is slowed down, we offer all students a long time frame for part time study, as well as the ability to apply for an extension or deferment from studies if required. Student Handbook 2024 for more information.

Course Load

We often get asked how long the course will take and how much study is required to get through.
As a general rule, if a student spends about 20 hours per week studying (which is a full-time course load) they should be able to complete the Cert IV in Residential Drafting in 9 months or 1.5 years for the Diploma of Building Design. The 20 hours per week includes all reading, research and completion of assessments.

Studying Whilst Working Full-Time

We have many students who are studying or have studied at Built Form Design Academy whilst also working full-time.

The self-paced online format of the course means that you choose, and take control, of your progress. All the course notes you require are available to you on the learning portal.

If you have any problems send us an email and we will get back to you, via email or phone call, on the next business day. We can also organise a one-on-one webinar outside of normal work hours.

A common thread with our graduates who studied whilst working is that they applied themselves to their study consistently and that has been key to their success. The number of hours they were able to put in each week varied but, our most successful students have applied themselves consistently.

Getting Your Foot in The Door

As a student of our college, you can also become a Student Member of the BDAA (Building Designers Association Australia). Membership of this organisation for students is free.

Diploma students are able to apply to their mentoring program or simply go along to their meetings in order to meet other like-minded people. This could also be a fantastic opportunity to network and get some work experience while you are studying or when you are finished.

We highly encourage students to join the BDAA from the start of their studies and to engage with their local chapter as the support provided from this networking has proved very helpful for many of our students who are entering the industry.
