Armchair Traveller: The Negozio Olivetti

Address: Piazza San Marco, 101, 30124 Venice, Italy

Architect: Carlo Scarpa

Website: http://www.negoziolivetti.it/

This week we are visiting the Negozio Olivetti, a former showroom (now museum) located in the Procuratie Vecchie, one of the buildings surrounding St Mark’s Square in Venice Italy.

The commercial fitout is a fine example of Italian modernism. Designed by architect Carlo Scarpa in 1958, on behalf of industrialist, politician and engineer Adriano Olivetti. The showroom originally displayed Olivetti products, the most famous of which were their typewriters.

The showroom has been fully restored to its original 1950s condition and is open as a museum. Click here to visit the Negozio Olivetti website.
