CPP50921 Diploma of Building Design

The CPP50921 Diploma of Building Design is a nationally accredited training course that teaches you the skills required to design small scale buildings. And may require you to work on a variety of projects including high rise commercial projects under the supervision of a registered architect.

The role of the building designer includes identifying project parameters, developing client briefs and concepts for sustainable building designs, documentation processes and liaison with project stakeholders.

Building design graduates will be expected to understand how to utilise building information modelling software (BIM – 3D CAD) that is current industry standard, how to produce drawings and documentation required by clients for the planning and building approval process.

As a building designer, you will be required to carry out research and apply relevant information to drawings and reports from other professionals, including compliance requirements relevant to the specific projects.

You will also be required to provide administrative support for design projects, including data collection and storage, and file management.

Licensing and Legislation

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to building designers in some states. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm these requirements.
This course provides fundamental skills that offers the student many opportunities on its own. However, for those wishing to further their studies they can use this course as a stepping stone into architecture, project management or interior design.

CPP50921 Diploma of Building Design

Upon successful completion of 12 units of competency, students will be issued a CPP50921 Diploma of Building Design. Where a student withdraws prior to the completion of the diploma they will be issued a Statement of Attainment for all units that they have successfully completed if all due fees have been paid

• CPPBDN5103 Produce compliant designs for Class 2-9 buildings up to two storeys 

• CPPBDN5104 Prepare drawings for planning and building approval for Class 2-9 buildings up to two storeys 

• CPPBDN5105 Evaluate construction materials and methods for Class 2-9 buildings up to two storeys 

• CPPBDN5106 Determine compliance requirements for Class 2-9 buildings up to two storeys 

• CPPBDN5107 Manage contracts for small-scale building design projects 

• CPPBDN5109 Recommend sustainability solutions for small-scale building design projects

• CPPBDN5110 Inspect and assess sites to inform the design process 

• CPCCBC4015 Prepare specifications for all construction work 

• CPPACC5011 Prepare concept designs for accessible building work 

• BSBESB402 Establish legal and risk management requirements of new business ventures 

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone interested in having a better understanding of the building processes and technologies applied to architecture and building design.

Entry Requirments

Students wishing to enrol in the CPP50921 Diploma of Building Design will require having completed one of the following qualifications:

CPP40115 Certificate IV in Building Design Drafting
CPP40121 Certificate IV in Residential Drafting
52757WA Certificate IV in Residential Building Drafting, or
Demonstrated relevant vocational experience, skills and knowledge commensurate with the scope of work covered in the core units of CPP40121 Certificate IV in Residential Drafting.

Course Duration

The course is conducted over 16 months (full time) / 2.7 years (part time). 

 

Study Load

Over the duration of the course it is expected that students will need to complete a minimum load of 1280 hours this includes formal work such as reading, and assessments as well as self guided research (20 hours per week recommended to complete course in 16 months)
